The UNIDO team headed by their Country Representative, Ms. Shadia Yousif Bakhait, recently visited TUSDEC along with Mr. Iftikhar Hussain, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Production. The agenda was to identify possible avenues of collaboration between UNIDO and TUSDEC, especially with respect to European Commissions upcoming SWITCH-Asian program. The stated initiative aims to promote Sustainable Consumption and Production (SCP) in Asia.

CEO TUSDEC, Mr. Syed Anwar Ali Pervez started the proceedings by giving a comprehensive presentation on the major accomplishments and achievements of the organization. During the presentation, Mr. Pervez strongly emphasized the need for accreditation of the Cement Research and Development Institute (CR&DI) and requested UNIDO for possible cooperation in this regard. Sr. Manager R&D, Mr. Muhammad Ali followed up by giving a presentation on the concept note developed by the TUSDEC team for SWITCH-Asia program on Industrial Effluent Treatment in Pakistan. Challenges confronting the wastewater treatment were discussed along with possible solutions to tackle the issues. The UNIDO team was also given a tour of TUSDEC’s facilities towards the end of the session.

UNIDO expressed keen interest in joining hands with TUSDEC in undertaking a project on cleaner production at the national level in Pakistan with special focus on waste minimization and conservation of the resources. The UNIDO delegation also praised the facilities available at TUSDEC and expressed strong desire to collaborate with TUSDEC on future projects of mutual interest.
