TUSDEC identified the need of “Establishment of Center for Acquisition of Semiconductor Technology”, a dedicated common facility and training centre (CFTC). The establishment of Center for Acquisition of Semiconductor Technology will uplift the electronics industry by importing contemporary technology, machinery, obtaining training and skill enhancement together with practical production training. This project will be accomplished with the help of consultants, machinery suppliers and ‘know-how’ agreements to keep pace with developments in processes and machinery. Semiconductor Technology will provide the industry with complete printed circuit solutions commensurate with ‘economy of scale’ as well as expert services for product design and proto-typing. Furthermore, the centre will be equipped with a modern electronics design and quality assurance lab for design. The feasibility study will engage international experts/ consultants to carry out technical, financial, legal, economic and operational sustainability of initiative. The study will be carried out in 12 months duration with a cost of PKR. 296.82 Millions.
Aims and Objectives of Semiconductor Technology
The Complex aims importing contemporary technology machinery along with skill enhancement together with practical production training. This would be accomplished through following objectives;
- Provision of Printed Circuit Board and design solutions with multi-layer facility to local industry
- Establish SMD manufacturing unit (Transistors, Diodes, Capacitors, Inductors, resistors, ICs etc)
- IC Designing and Testing Facility
- Support modern electronics design and quality assurance through laboratories for design and development. The CFCs will contain high-tech SMT machines for assembly.
- Facilitate transfer of technical knowledge and technology to local industries
The proposed location for this project will be Lahore while the feasibility study will explore and suggest highly potential area for establishment of center for acquisition of semiconductor technology. Center for Acquisition of Semiconductor Technology Pakistan is a large scale initiative and requiring billions of Investment through Public Private Partnership. Moreover, the key element generated by the Complex will be various direct and indirect employment opportunities.
Based on the findings / recommendations of the working group and associated experts, PC-Is will develop to assist the potential sectors for entering the high value market.
