The tools, dies and moulds business in Pakistan is suffering from scarcity of skilled manpower, inadequate level of technology and virtually no understanding of quality requirements which has resulted in low overall productivity. It was revealed by the studies carried out by TUSDEC that there is a lack of institutional support especially in terms of technical assistance and training and due to these limitations, Pakistan has been unable to produce tools of international quality.
MoIP (Ministry of Industries and Production, Government of Pakistan) addressed this issue and decided to provide training, consultancy and modern machine shop facilities to the Pakistani TDM industry. In pursuance of this, TUSDEC has set up a common facility called KTDMC (Karachi Tools, Dies and Moulds Centre) in Korangi, Karachi. The objective is to provide the local TDM and related industry with state-of-the-art design, training, consultancy and manufacturing facilities. This facility will enable local industry to produce TDM based finished products of international quality that will ultimately help the local industry produce a direct benefit in terms of foreign exchange savings.
TUSDEC successfully implemented the project and has now become a spun off company. It is now managed by its own Board of Directors and successfully building the capacity of local industry by skill development of local workforce and providing tools, dies, moulds and heat treatment services to the automotive sector.
