A 3D scanner can be used to digitize free-form surfaces or gradually changing profiles and curved shapes of components. Profile of such components are laser scanned to get data of cluster points. This data is then processed to create a usable digital model, using a dedicated reverse engineering software. The software delivers the solution for transforming 3D scan data and polygon meshes into accurately surfaced 3D digital models for reverse engineering, product design, rapid prototyping and analysis. National Institute of Design & Analysis (NIDA) Lahore offers 3D Scanning and Reverse Engineering services at very reasonable and competitive rates. A non-contact 3D scanner from Italy is employed  for the purpose. It can digitize with an accuracy of ±0.005mm and scan-able area is within an envelope of One Sq. Meter (1m x 1m or 3ft x 3ft).Point Cloud Data and finished 3D models as surfaces and solids, in various file formats can be provided. The turn around time for a single job is within one day.
